[Not only is "Brooklyn" an unfamiliar place, but it doesn't even sound like it would fit into any of the nations that Sokka knows. That's a good thing, because if it's true that Bucky has nothing to do with the Fire Nation, then Sokka isn't in immediate danger. It's difficult to take it that way, though, because with every new piece of information Sokka receives from all of this, the further away he feels from where he needs to be.

He doesn't say anything that might give away that he's unfamiliar with Bucky's hometown, but Sokka is now weighing his options. He's trying to decide how he should draw out more information — and whether it's worth testing the waters by revealing small pieces of information about himself so he can gauge Bucky's reactions.

Food is a good first step, though Sokka takes a second to decide if he should eat the strange food, especially if it's prepared by someone else. Surely if he was brought here to be killed so quickly, he'd already be dead. So — it shouldn't be poisoned, even if so much of it is unfamiliar.

And really, one fact remains eternally true, and it's that Sokka is almost always good for a meal. He has to eat if he wants to get anywhere with anything, and this is the same food he'll have to bring with him when he leaves. Besides, if he watches Bucky cook, then he'll probably learn a few useful things. So after a brief hesitation, he nods.]

I'm hungry. [A brief pause.] Really hungry. [Something he hadn't quite realized with all the adrenaline of expecting a fight. Now that he's deflating and trying to think his way through things, he's starting to feel it in earnest.]

I like meat. And fish.

[Those preferences are basic enough. Sokka sets the can opener down, solidifying the fact that he isn't going to leave — yet. But he still keeps a grip on his boomerang, albeit loosened some now.]
