[Sokka isn't sure what he's waiting for, after saying all of that, but he finds himself tensing all over again after he (sort of) explains his situation — as though there's still a chance that Bucky could make an inference about the Four Nations, or his role in the war — or anything that matters. He's conditioned to expect the worst because — well, the worst tends to happen to him. Just look at where he is now.
But Bucky's reaction not only demonstrates none of that, but it's also helpful, in a way that Sokka isn't used to. There have been a lot of times during his travels where he and the others needed information, or help, or even just a simple audience with someone, only to be forcefully denied. It's — kind of strange to have someone willing to be patient and walk Sokka through everything he needs to know.
