That could be it. [ He can't commit fully to any one line of thinking quite yet, but if he imagines some well to do elderly couple, midcentury enthusiasts, it explains away the house well enough. One commandeered for whatever experiment or torture this is, their personalized elements added just recently. Doesn't necessarily explain the handful of cars he could spot from the bedroom window, but maybe they've got a collection. Money opens up a lot of possibilities.

He nearly asks her if any dim bells go off, if the house is perhaps geared toward pushing some button of hers, but in light of 'everyone is dead' he bites his tongue. Better to not run headlong into what unfortunate fate befell her grandparents. Cupboards hardly seem a two-man job so he revisits the fridge, selecting a clear glass and filling it halfway with milk. Nothing visibly amiss, no off-smell. ]
