He hears the pane of glass rattle in its frame over the discordant notes he's making, and once more, the music pauses with a horsehair shriek.

The man on the couch looks over at the person at the window. He barks, loud enough to carry through the glass --

"Is there a fire?"

It's rhetorical. He doesn't wait for an answer before going on.

"No? Then leave me alone!"

The sad wailing picks up again.
